Persist: 2018
It’s the first month of the new year, and this is one of my favorite times. Why? Well, because I get to choose a word that will define my actions for the months to come. Every time I choose a word, I think about a scripture to go with it, and how that word will affect me & those around me. I think of how it can grow me in my relationship with Christ, others, and how I can even grow myself.
This year, my word is P E R S I S T.
The definition of “persist” is “to continue firmly or obstinately in an opinion or course of action in spite of difficulty, opposition, or failure.”
Galatians 6:9 says “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” When I think of this verse, I think of all the lost people I come in contact with day in and day out. It’s not always easy to be the light we’re told to be as Christians, but this verse tells us to keep on. Sometimes it’s so tiring trying to reach people for the Lord when you feel no progress is made. THIS is why my word is “persist.” I feel both convicted and encouraged by this verse.
When I just feel like I can’t do it anymore “persist”
When I want to give up on someone who desperately needs Jesus “persist”
When I feel like I’m not making an impact “persist”
When I think there isn’t hope for the world “persist”
When I feel like a failure or a disappointment “persist”
When I’m tempted to move on because things are hard “persist”
Jesus is so capable. He is our hope, He will take care of us, He will walk through all of the valleys with us, and He will guide us through the obstacle courses we face. I can persist because I have the Holy Spirit to depend on for wisdom and discernment in knowing when to share Jesus, I can be encouraged when I know I’ve been obedient to Him, and I can rest because I know the result is in His hands. Knowing that He is capable of being there for us, that I can depend on Him, and most importantly, that He gave up HIS LIFE for us, gives me all the more passion to persist for Him.
Christ died so that we might live eternally with Him one day. Some people won’t get to have this eternal life with Him because they aren’t being reached. I don’t know about you, but because Christ was crucified for the sins of the world, I want to tell people that don’t know Him personally. I want people to be able to experience this love and joy and freedom that I get to experience in Jesus. If I am persistent and willing, I will one day be able to reap a harvest. It takes time, patience, and lots of sowing, but I know one day it will be worth it all.
I challenge you to find a word that defines the course of action you take in your life. Find a scripture that lines up with your word, and strive to live it out + bring glory to Christ while doing so. Maybe you have a word. If so, I challenge you to share that word with others and what it means to you. Who knows, you might be able to influence people with that & show Jesus in a simple way. I challenge you to make an impact. Don’t just say that you’ll live out your year starting fresh with goals, ACT on it! I am praying that as you read this, you are able to think of your word. I pray you will boldly live that out, and make an impact on this lost and broken world. Finally, I pray that you will be able to persist, despite what difficulties you face.
I hope this blog post encouraged you to press on, because He is certainly worth it all.
All the love,
Gracie
